This project was the winning proposal of an invited competition to investigate the future of AHO at their current location in Maridalsveien 29. Since establishing themselves there in 2001 both the organisation and the number of students has increased, and the school, now filled to the brim with employees and students, has begun to feel an ever-increasing pressure upon its premises. Especially now, with the new landscape architecture programme and planned expansion of its design programmes, the school is faced with important questions regarding the schools future: How should the schools premises be developed? How can AHO be best equipped to tackle future changes? How will AHO be in 20-30 years time?
Based upon research and the expected growth, two differing scenarios have been explored for the development of the school in its current location: Spread to nearby buildings in the neighbourhood, or concentration via transforming the existing school. Additionally a series of smaller interventions that may positively affect the internal and external relations of the school in the city are shown. We have aimed to demonstrate that both small and larger changes as well as initiative are a key strategy with a practical example: the renovation of the students pub to a flexible exhibition space in collaboration with the students.
